Over the summer, Studio Art Teacher Ms. Jillian Taylor joined Jesuit High School Sacramento’s art department. In her new position, she will teach various levels of art, from Studio Art to AP Studio Art.

Having served as a co-director for an art gallery in Miami and as an assistant director for an art gallery in Paris, Ms. Taylor brings a wealth of experience with her to Jesuit. Her interest in the arts began with her Ivy League education.

“My training at the Yale School of Drama got me interested in artistry and how to cultivate it,” Ms. Taylor said. “My interest in fine art was probably developed by living in New York City where one simply can’t escape it.”

Dr. Madden is excited to have Ms. Taylor bring her expertise to the VPA Program.

“I could not be happier with the addition of Ms. Taylor to the VPA department,” Dr. Madden said. “She is immensely creative, talented, and dedicated. What makes her such a tremendous addition is that she is an exceptional person and will look out for her students and create a welcoming and creative space for them to learn.”

One thing Ms. Taylor looks forward to during her time at Jesuit is combining her passion for art with her faith.

“For me, art – in all its forms – showcases the wonder and beauty of the human spirit and at its best speaks the truth of the human condition,” Ms. Taylor said. “I believe the process of making art is a very spiritual act, and I want to be in a place where the discussion of God is not only allowed but encouraged!”

Dr. Madden believes that Ms. Taylor’s extensive knowledge of art will make her a great addition to the VPA program.

“Mrs. Taylor has traveled the world and wherever she has gone she has gone to great lengths to learn from the people who call those countries home,” Dr. Madden said. “In addition to being creative, she has also worked extensively in the ‘business’ of art and can offer her students a unique perspective on what it means to make a living as an artist.”
