On a beautiful day at the California Maritime rugby field, the Jesuit JV Marauders notched their first league victory of the 2018 season against the Marin Highlanders. The Highlanders were physical in the tackle, quick to the breakdown, and recycled the ball efficiently to put the Marauders under pressure. However, a bit of disciplinary issues saw two of their players sent off with yellow cards at the 11 minute and 13 minute mark. The energy required to hold the line short-handed soon took a toll on the Highlanders and sophomore center Mauricio Murguia-Sarin broke away for his first try (unconverted). Jesuit 5 – Marin 0. Even with a Jesuit player off for a dangerous tackle (whip tackle), the Big Red Machine began to come to life with Murguia-Sarin going over for his second of the day (unconverted) to close out the first half scoring. Jesuit 10 – Marin 0

Even with many of the young freshmen Marauders entering the fray, the second half turned into a track meet with scores coming from sophomore prop Liam McLoughlin (unconverted), sophomore hooker Logan Carter (unconverted), sophomore center Hunter Donelson (unconverted), Murguia-Sarin for the hat-trick (unconverted), and freshman eightman Kelecki Latu (conversion by sophomore scrumhalf  Hunter Modlin).  Final score: Jesuit 37 - Marin 0

Man-of-the-Match honors went to:

  • Forwards – Kelecki Latu
  • Backs – Mauricio Murguia-Sarin
