Jesuit High School Announces Addition of Mandarin Chinese to World Language Offerings

News

Jesuit High School is excited to announce the addition of Mandarin Chinese to our World Language curriculum. Beginning in fall 2025, Freshman students will have the opportunity to study one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, gaining valuable linguistic and cultural insights that will prepare them for an increasingly global society.

This new offering reflects Jesuit’s commitment to academic excellence and cultural understanding, equipping our students with the skills to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world. Mandarin Chinese is often regarded as “the world’s most difficult language,” but it is also uniquely important in today’s international business and geopolitics and for exploring an ancient culture. Beyond high school, having Mandarin Chinese foundational language skills can prove valuable in many collegiate or professional pursuits.

Jesuit looks forward to welcoming students into our Mandarin Chinese program and expanding our global learning opportunities. Mandarin 1 is a full-year course that introduces the foundation of the Chinese language, including its phonetic system, character formation, and sentence structure. Students will acquire basic speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills utilizing audio-visual materials and textbooks.

In addition to Mandarin, students have many opportunities to enjoy real-life learning in World Language classes.  Jesuit currently offers Spanish and French at four levels, including the respective AP Language and Culture courses, and plans to build toward a complete offering of Mandarin Chinese if interest is strong enough.
