Remembering Ross Evans: A Beloved Teacher, Coach, and Mentor
With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of Ross Evans, a dedicated teacher, coach, mentor, and friend to the Jesuit High School Sacramento community. Evans passed away on February 18, 2025, leaving behind a remarkable 43-year legacy of service and commitment to Jesuit. He is survived by his wife, Karen, and their son, Matt ’04.
From 1977 to 2020, he served in countless roles that shaped the lives of generations of students. First hired as the athletic director— a position he held for five years – he also taught Biology, Biology XL, Anatomy/Physiology, and Physical Education and led the Physical Education Department for 42 years. On the field, he coached track for 12 years and football for 39 years, impacting student-athletes with his wisdom, leadership, and unwavering support. Additionally, he spent 15 years as the assistant athletic director, always ensuring Jesuit athletics upheld a tradition of excellence.
As Coach Ross was such a shining light for our Marauders – a moment of silence was held at the February 18 home playoff basketball game where his son, Matt, was in attendance.
Our hearts are with the Evans family during this difficult time. May Ross’ legacy of dedication, passion, and mentorship live on through the many lives he impacted.
