Golf team teeing off to a great season

This February, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s golf team teed off a busy season. Hoping to carry on momentum from last season, the team is participating in a challenging tournament this weekend, which will allow them to grow and improve their game.

“This season because of some success last season, we were invited to what’s called the De Lasalle Elite 12, where they choose what they think are the best 12 teams in the state,” said Golf Head Varsity Coach Tom Morton. “In [a few days] from now we’re going to be heading to Monterey to play a wonderful golf course at the old four-door base called the Blackhorse at Monterey, so it should be a really great tournament against some really great competition.”

In order to compete at such a high level, the team needs to hone in on their strengths when on the course.

“Our biggest strength as a team is our depth,” said Anthony Stouder ’26. “A lot of schools have a good top one or two players and then don’t have a strong rest of their team. We’re lucky to have an incredibly competitive team where anyone at any moment could qualify, play, and do really well. That’s going to be an advantage because we’ll always have people who happen to be having a good week of golf to fill out our lineup.”

Although this year’s line up is very strong, the team still has a few things to work on in order to fully grow their skills throughout the season. Luke Dariotis ’25 believes that one challenge he will face while on the course is focusing too long on past errors.

“One challenge that I face on the course is staying present,” Luke said. “It’s easy for me to dwell on the past and worry about what’s to come in the future, but I know I do my best work when I stay present.”

The golf season is already underway, and their next match is on Thursday, March 6 against Folsom. Show up and support the golf team throughout the season!
