Over the past four years, Grant Anderson ’24 has excelled in nearly everything he does at Jesuit High School Sacramento. Whether it’s on the mat, in academics, or in daily life, Grant incorporates his compassion in order to reach this success.

“Grant has a tremendous impact on those around him,” said Sports Performance Coordinator Mr. Jay Nacionales. “He leads with his words, but more importantly, he leads by example. You can tell he truly cares for his fellow peers.”

Grant’s work on the mat has also seen extraordinary success.

“[Grant] has been the best on the team for the past four years; he’s been captain four years in a row, MVP four years in a row, [and] state-ranked [for] almost three years now,” said wrestling teammate Oliver Uniza ’25.

Jesuit’s brotherhood has shown Grant a sense of compassion from the very moment he stepped on campus, and as a result, Grant has been seen to reflect that compassion toward his peers.

“Jesuit showed me what it was like to be included,” Grant said. “When I came here my freshman year, I had no friends, I came from a public school, and so during COVID, it was really hard to make friends over online [learning]; I ended up meeting some really great friends and they showed me what it was like to be a ‘Man for Others.’”

In addition to his gratitude for the brotherhood, Grant has gained a genuine appreciation for the knowledge and life lessons he has learned at Jesuit.

“In the classroom at Jesuit, I have obviously grown in my intellect, [...] and I’ve just gotten smarter and I realized what I want to take in my career path,” Grant said. “I found a love for science and anatomy. And outside the classroom, Jesuit has really taught me how to have friends that are not just friends but are actual family that will support you for the rest of your life.

Mr. Nacionales recognizes Grant’s in-class achievements and how he is able to expertly balance the athletic and academic sides of his life.

“Grant is what I can consider a true student-athlete,” Mr. Nacionales said. “He holds himself to a high standard in everything he does. He operates at a very high level on the wrestling mat as well as in the classroom. He truly embodies a key value in Jesuit education, which is the ‘Magis.’ Every day he is striving for excellence, for the better.”
