Jesuit dominates Whitney in final regular season game

On Friday, Nov. 1, the Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity football team beat the Whitney High School Wildcats 48-7.

Following a punt from the Wildcats, Jesuit started off the scoring by taking a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter after a 42-yard rushing touchdown from Joshua Rucker ’26 and a made PAT from Yudiel “Dragon” Mondragon.

The Wildcats failed to answer on their following possession, fumbling on their own 26-yard line, which was returned for a Marauder touchdown by linebacker Tyler Garcia ’25. Dragon  extended Jesuit’s lead to 14-0 with six minutes to go in the first quarter by kicking in another PAT.

With just under a minute left to go in the second quarter, Whitney finally responded with a 3-yard rushing touchdown, reducing Jesuit’s lead to 14-7.

To start the second quarter, quarterback Teddy Rios ’26 scrambled for a short run into the end zone. Dragon converted on the PAT, making the score 21-7 Jesuit.

Following another punt from the Wildcats, Teddy connected with wide receiver Noah Briceño ’26 for a 74-yard touchdown pass to expand the lead to 28-7 to end the half.

After a series of turnovers from both teams to open the second half, Jesuit was able to convert on a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Chris Effiong Jr. ’25, and a fourth good PAT gave Jesuit a 28-point lead 35-7.

With under six minutes to go in the third quarter, defensive back Jace Bassett ’26 intercepted a pass which set up a massive 86-yard rushing touchdown from running back Miles Hubbard ’26. Dragon added another PAT, extending Jesuit’s lead to 42-7.

With five minutes left in the game, Jesuit scored their last points of the game with a 1-yard rushing touchdown from Robert Whitney ’25. Kicker Cannon Davey ’25 missed Jesuit’s PAT, keeping the score at 48-7.

Jesuit’s running game was phenomenal, with running backs Miles and Chris Effiong Jr. ’25 combining for 170 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns on 16 carries. The defense also showed out with 3 interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Jesuit improves to 3-4 in league play, and 6-4 overall. Jesuit’s next game is a home playoff matchup this Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. against the Lodi High School Flames.
