Jesuit gets blown out by thunderstorm

On Friday, Sept. 27, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity football team lost to the Rocklin High School Thunder 52-14.

RHS received the opening kickoff and quickly went down the field to score a 6-yard rushing touchdown, taking a 7-0 lead, with nine minutes to go in the first quarter. 

On Jesuit’s first possession of the game, the Marauders drove all the way down to the 3-yard line before quarterback Teddy Rios ’26 threw an interception. To end the first quarter, RHS broke away with a 56-yard rushing touchdown, putting Jesuit at a 14-0 deficit going into the second quarter.

After a long run from running back Chris Effiong Jr. ’25, Jesuit got on the board with a 1-yard quarterback sneak from Teddy making the score 14-7 in favor of RHS. 

With five minutes left to go in the first half, RHS extended their lead to 21-7 following a 14-yard rushing touchdown. Then, after a quick 3 and out, Jesuit punted the ball to their own 49-yard line. RHS quickly capitalized, throwing a 48-yard touchdown with three minutes to go. 

The Thunder scored twice in two minutes, pushing their lead to 28-7, before adding  a 35-yard field goal to make the score 31-7 RHS going into halftime.

After a punt from Jesuit to open up the second half, RHS scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown after a long drive.

In the third quarter with nine minutes left, running back Victor Cubero ’25 capped off a brilliant drive with a 52-yard touchdown run to make it 38-14. Five minutes later, the Thunder answered with another touchdown to lead 45-14.

Following a series of punts and turnovers, RHS finally scored the last points of the game with a 4-yard rushing touchdown, making the final score 52-14 RHS. 

Jesuit is now 0-2 in league play, and 3-2 overall. Jesuit’s next game is this Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. , where Jesuit will face Davis High School at home.
