As spring begins, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s lacrosse team has kicked off their season with a strong start. Looking to push themselves in a strong year, the team holds a league record of 6-3 and an overall record of 7-4.

The lacrosse team started the season off with a winning streak against Vista Del Lago (11-7), Rocklin (16-2), Folsom (14-2), Del Oro (15-9).

Then, the team faltered, suffering consecutive losses to Granite Bay, Junipero Serra, Whitney, and Oak Ridge. Throughout the end of the March, however, they regained their footing, winning against Del Oro, Davis Sr, Rocklin, and Folsom while only losing to Oak ridge.

Kai Switlick ’25 has high hopes for this year’s team. He believes their passing has improved to become more coordinated.

“Our offense has significantly improved our ball movement since last season,” Kai said. “In the first few games, a large majority of our goals were assisted, even though we were playing some teams that we could’ve beaten by simply winning one-on-one matchups. However, we must continue to develop this skill as we play more difficult teams who will put more pressure on our passes.”

Of course, there is always room for improvement, especially when it comes to positioning and communication.

“We have to work on our off-ball movement,” Kai said. “If every player is able to consistently move around the field [and] go into spots that benefit the team, we would be able to take even better advantage of our ball movement abilities. Both our offense and defense need to continue to work on our communication, as many of the goals scored on us have been due to lapses in understanding what our teammates are doing. We also must develop more skilled players so that we aren’t completely reliant on a select few.”

As the season progresses, the lacrosse team hopes to secure more wins against league rivals. Their next game is on Thursday, April 3 against Granite Bay.
