Jesuit took part in the 30th annual Run to Feed the Hungry
Jesuit High School Sacramento took part in the 30th annual Run to Feed the Hungry, which benefits the Sacramento Food Bank on Thanksgiving.
Administrative Assistant for the Office of Service & Justice and Campus Ministry Ms. Tina Bernardi served as the Jesuit team organizer for the run this year.
“Jesuit is all about being a ‘Man for Others,’ and this is a great way to accomplish this,” Ms. Bernardi said. “We are giving back to our community and supporting our Sacramento area food bank in feeding the over 250,000 people who depend on Sacramento Food Bank for their food.”
One of Jesuit’s runners, Mitchell Sullivan ’25, has participated for the last eight years.
“It’s a family tradition, and we’re also active contributors to the Sacramento Food Bank, so we already have ties and it feels good,” Mitchell said.
Jesuit alum Michael Santarosa ’99, visiting from Utah, remembers running the race in his second year as a Jesuit student, and recognizes the link between Jesuit’s mission and participation in the event.
“I know [the food bank] needs help more than ever,” Mr. Santarosa said. “We are carrying on that ‘Men for Others’ mission.”
Race organizers reported that the race raised more than $1 million to help the Sacramento Food Bank serve the community, and according to the event’s website, 74 persons – students, teachers, parents, alumni and their families – registered for Jesuit’s team, although many other members of our larger community ran independently from the team.
As of two days after the race, Jesuit’s team received $588 in donations, ranking 28 out of 184 teams that raised money for the event. Jesuit’s participation in this long standing tradition displays their commitment to being “Men for Others” and helping the community.
