Jesuit High School Sacramento’s 2023 to 2024 soccer season kicked off on Nov. 29, and the team is ready to go. The players prepared for the new season enthusiastically, and are looking forward to putting on a good show and making their fans proud.

Center-back Charlie Black ’24 is looking forward to the new season after an unfortunate one last year. 

“We had a disappointing season last year,” Charlie said. “But we got a lot of returning guys, and I’m looking forward to being able to go out there and play with them, and hopefully bring back some hardware with my friends.”

Colin Davey ’24, who plays several positions, appreciates the opportunity to play for the Marauders once again

“[I’m excited to play] the big games, like the Rio games and the CB games,” Colin said. “I remember last year I didn’t play because of club soccer, so this year I’m really excited to just put that Jesuit jacket back on again, and I’m really looking forward to just playing for Jesuit in those bigger games.” 

Varsity Soccer Coach Paul Rose is excited about the new season as well. Coach Rose wants the team to achieve all their goals for the season with hard work and dedication. 

“My goal is just to get them organized,” Coach Rose said. “That’s always one of the big challenges because they play on a lot of different teams, so they kind of play a lot of different systems, so it’s getting everybody on the same page. That’s my first goal. And then the second goal is just to keep them focused and keep them on track, and hopefully, we peak at playoffs and we can get some good results.”

Coach Rose believes that the season is going to be a team effort; they will have to come together and work together to succeed. How will the team come together? Coach Rose has the plan.

“We have a couple of trips where we play teams, where we kind of get a chance to bond,” Coach Rose said. “That really helps, but I think a lot of it is kind of how you treat the players and what you do in practice that builds unity. If you isolate and encourage them as individuals, then you’re going to get individuals. If you make them do a lot of stuff as a team, then they’re going to be a team.” 

As they look forward, the Jesuit soccer team is excited about what lies ahead. With their talent, hard work, and love for the game, they aim to make the upcoming season one to remember.
