Looking to help where needed most
This year, Jesuit High School Sacramento welcomes a new face to its counseling department. Ms. Jocelyn Kulper, who previously taught health education at Tokay High School in Lodi, California, stepped into the position as Administrative Assistant for Counseling.
In her new role at Jesuit, Ms. Kulper is in charge of ensuring that communication is smooth and efficient throughout the Counseling Department.
“The administrative assistant job covers pretty much everything that we do within our counseling department, which includes wellness and extends to academic support,” said Director of Counseling Services Ms. Amanda Smith. “She helps out with making sure everyone is prepared and ready for all of the collaborations that we have for [students], and the materials that we send out. She communicates to everyone through the classrooms and to parents and coordinates with all of us to ensure that our students and our community is getting the best experience from counseling that they possibly can.”
Ms. Kulper has already made an impression as a social and affable person. Counselor Ms. Jennifer Rasmussen attests to Ms. Kulper’s approachable demeanor.
“She’s very warm and inviting to students,” Ms. Rasmussen said. “She exemplifies the values [of Jesuit]… She likes to laugh and not take things too serious, but she’s also a very, very hard worker, and she’s just very open to everything around here.”
Ms. Kulper is eager for the new opportunities her new role at Jesuit will provide.
“I’ve always worked in education – last year I was a full time teacher at a public school, but I wanted something different and to get out of the classroom,” Ms. Kulper said. “I still wanted to be in education supporting students, and I think this position really allows me to do that.”
Ms. Smith has noticed Ms. Kulper’s willingness to help in many areas of the Jesuit community.
“I’ve already seen her jump in and start helping out wherever she possibly can,” Ms. Smith said. “I have a feeling that while she’s working in the counseling department right now, she’s going to continue to work alongside each of the programs. Her gift is really her presence and the way that she’s able to learn anything really quickly and be a person who’s willing to help out in every area where she is; she’s very multifaceted.”
Despite only having been on campus for a short time, Ms. Kulper already appreciates Jesuit’s environment.
“Everybody’s really kind to each other, from faculty and teachers to students,” Ms. Kulper said. “It’s a really different change from what I’ve been in, so it’s been really great to have that.”
Ms. Kulper is enthusiastic to settle into her position and see how she can contribute to Jesuit going onwards.
“You know, it’s all new this whole year, and so [I’m] just going through every event,” Ms. Kulper said. “Making sure everything is going well, and then maybe reevaluating it for the second year going forward, and [seeing] what I can do better next time.”
