Few students in this year’s senior class are as involved throughout campus life as Lucas Kim ’24, and even  fewer who have been as crucial to their programs as he. In addition to being the vice president of the Asian Pacific Islander Club, Lucas is the historian for student council, the co-president of the peer tutoring program, and a varsity soccer player.

Among all his co-curricular activities at Jesuit High School Sacramento, soccer is the one that stands out to Lucas the most.

“I’ve been playing soccer all of my life,” Lucas said. “It is the sport I’ve been best at and the sport I find the most joy in. My most memorable moment [at Jesuit] would be scoring one of my first goals on varsity last year by heading the ball on a cross delivered by Aiden Sandmeier. I remember the high fives after the goal and hearing that Coach Rose talked about it days after the fact.”

Lucas shares the joy he finds in soccer with others by being a supportive teammate.

“Lucas is an unselfish player and is only concerned about what is great for the team,” Coach Rose said. “This attitude permeates on the field. He covers for players out of position, sends great crosses into the box, and encourages his teammates.”

Although Lucas spends a lot of time working on his co-curriculars, he still manages to form deep connections with those around him.

“Lucas is a good friend because he is very easy to talk to,” Frank Valencia ’24 said. “He is fun to be around in person and online; we play video games together and do homework.”

Andrew Clemente ’24 admires Lucas’s work ethic and his commitment to strive for success.

“What I see in Lucas is that he is hardworking,” Andrew said. “Although it doesn’t seem like it at first, since he doesn’t seem stressed at school, he has to balance his academics, sports, and his role as a historian for the student council. And that can be hard.”

Frank believes that Lucas has a bright future ahead of him, and that he’ll succeed wherever he goes next.

“[Lucas] is one of the most hardworking people I know; he is also very smart,” Frank said. “I am so excited to see where he goes to school because he deserves to get in anywhere.”
