On the evening of Saturday, Sept. 21, Jesuit High School Sacramento will be hosting its first Frosh Soph Open Dance of the school year. This exciting “neon night” will be held from 7 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. in the Father Barry Gymnasium.

Student Activities Director Mr. Peter Ferrari and the student council organized this night full of festivities.

“[Organizing the dance] starts with the plans that student council guys come up with in terms of a theme, in terms of the atmosphere that they want to set,” Mr. Ferrari said. “Once they’ve figured out the atmosphere, then we have a meeting with our DJ, where we talk through how we can make that vision a reality. Then alongside those details that help to set the vibe, we’ve got the logistical details that run parallel to that – making sure that we have our chaperones lined up, making sure that our ticket page is all set to go, and advertising it so that students can buy their tickets.”

When this vision becomes a reality, these dances create amazing, often core memories for most students in their first years at Jesuit. By hosting open dances, Jesuit builds a community for both freshmen and sophomores from schools around the area. Student Council Treasurer and Secretary Luke Elken vividly remembers past dances and the memories he made with those who attended.

“The thing that always stood out to me was the people there,” Luke said. “To me, the most important part of the dances, and the reason why we throw them is to create a community, to create that bond with not only Jesuit students, but other schools like Saint Francis and CB. And that’s why we do it. And that’s why we love hosting these [dances].”

Open dances like these  cultivate a strong bond between students and schools alike. The memories created, people met and communal bonds formed through these exciting evenings will last for the rest of a student’s high school experience.
