Open House: life as a Jesuit student
On Sunday Oct. 16, Jesuit High School Sacramento invited prospective students and families to visit Jesuit’s campus for Open House, an introductory and exploratory presentation of the school and its brotherhood.
The event’s accessibility to parents and students is the key to Open House success.
“One of the things I think that’s helpful is both parents and students attend,” said Principal Dr. Michael Wood. “And it helps for both the parents and the students to have a shared experience to talk about as a family.”
Visiting students are introduced to many insightful experiences and programs during Open House.
“You get to see the academic life of the school, the athletic life of the school, the religious life of the school, the comprehensive counseling program, the dozens of clubs and student activities that take place,” Dr. Wood said. “In one open house experience you can see and experience all of it.”
Sean Lin ’26, a freshman that visited Jesuit’s Open House last year, is grateful for the helpfulness and insight that the student tour provided him.
“Open House was a very eye-opening and memorable experience overall [because] I was toured by one of Jesuit’s many articulate seniors on a physical tour of the campus and given a passionate, intelligible elucidation of the countless rewarding experiences and outstanding education Jesuit High School has to offer.”
Integral to the event’s success was the student volunteers who helped visitors navigate the campus and learn about Jesuit.
“Our STAR Team students showed up, and they were awesome,” said Director and Coordinator of the Open House Mr. Matthew Ramos ’05 “So we had plenty of tour guides, and plenty of students on campus. So there was an uptick in student involvement and student interactions.”
Being able to interact with other students is one of the most important parts of Open House because it allows for a hands-on experience of life at Jesuit.
“It was really the student-on-student interactions, and seeing prospective students with students that they knew as alumni from their middle school, seeing kids play ‘Super Smash Brothers’ together, the athletic tables and seeing all of our athletes there talking to students was an awesome experience,” Mr. Ramos said.
Jesuit’s Open House event gives prospective students and their families a chance to come and see not only the campus, but the brotherhood that the Jesuit community offers.
