Open Mic Night
Tonight, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Asian Pacific Islander Clubs
(APIC) from Jesuit High School Sacramento and St. Francis High
School, along with Jesuit Latinos Unidos and the Jesuit Student
Council, will host Open Mic Night in the Harris Center.
For $5, students can enjoy a night of food, friends, and performances. All proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
APIC President Mason Fat ’23 started planning for this event in the middle of November. With the help of the APIC from St. Francis and the Jesuit Student Council, he and the rest of the APIC were able to create what he hopes to be a great time for all that attend.
“My personal goal for Open Mic Night is to bring joy and happiness to everyone who performs and attends,” Mason said. “As long as the people have a great time, Open Mic Night has served its purpose.”
While the performances are the main attraction, there is no competition between them. Affinity Group Coordinator Jayden Canio ’23 and the rest of APIC want Open Mic Night to be seen as more of a social event.
“There’s no competition or whatever, you just have a good time,” Jayden said. “People perform. It’s also like a social event, so just socialize with other people and have a great time.”
APIC Historian Charlie Kim ’25 wants students to know that this event isn’t just for students in APIC; it’s for all students, not only here at Jesuit but from other schools in the area too.
“[We want] to spread more awareness about it. It’s for all of Jesuit, not just APIC, and there’s gonna be lots of other schools there too,” Charlie said.
The resources here at Jesuit provide APIC the perfect opportunity to host an event like this every year and encourage students to share their talents, something that Mason is very grateful for.
“Jesuit is a place for all of our talents and cultures to be shared,” Mason said. “Open Mic Night is a great opportunity to build community. As the president of APIC and as a senior, I wanted to thank Jesuit for all of the opportunities that are given to me and my club.”
Make sure to show up to see some great performances, eat some delicious food, and hang out with friends.
