Open Mic Night to highlight talents for charity
On Friday, March 1, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s Asian Pacific Islander Club (APIC) will hold its eighth annual Open Mic Night event in the Fr. Harris Student Life Center. This is a chance for high school students from all over Sacramento to come show off their talents, socialize with friends, and enjoy a wide variety of foods prepared by student clubs.
The event is not limited to Jesuit students; students from schools all across Sacramento are invited to attend and perform in the fun-filled night.
“Anyone is allowed at the event, including public schools and relatives,” said APIC President Jayden Canio ’25. “Open Mic [Night] is a fun event that allows people to bond with each other and have a great time. It also gives a chance for anyone to show off their talents in front of a crowd.”
The purpose of this event is not only to let students perform their talents and socialize but also to also support a good cause. Proceeds from the event will benefit a charity dedicated to the fight against blood cancer worldwide.
“It brings Jesuit together, but it is also for a good cause,” APIC Vice President Lucas Kim ’24 said. “We are donating 40% of the money raised to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.”
APIC social media manager Raphael “Rafi” Edralin ’25 believes that Open Mic Night is a rare opportunity for students to perform and appreciate each other’s talents.
“This APIC-led event highlights the hidden talents our students don’t get to often showcase in school,” Rafi said. “This event is not only a sort of ‘talent show,’ but is also filled with comedic acts from our emcees, student/club-led food vendors, and an overall great event to kick your weekend off.”
APIC puts in a lot of work and effort to ensure that this night is fun for everyone and operates smoothly.
“There’s a lot that goes into Open Mic Night,” Rafi said. “We have to figure out a date to host the event, advertise the event, make the food for the event, sell tickets, clean up and set up, and take care of auditions and performances and in what order they’ll perform in.”
Tickets are $5 and will be sold online on the Jesuit website and at the door. Make sure to stop by the Harris Center for a night of fun, food, and friends – all while supporting a good cause.
