“Spring and Swing into Senior Year” unites the Senior Class with a socially-distanced event
Although the original date for the Senior Class golfing event was postponed from Nov. due to COVID-19 health concerns, the event has been rescheduled for tonight, Tuesday, March 2 under a new name, “Spring and Swing into Senior Year.”
From 4:30 – 7:30 p.m., the Senior Class is invited to use the driving range and the nine-hole mini-golf course at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. Seniors will also be able to have a meal at the food truck and leave with a special t-shirt and swag bag courtesy of the Jesuit Loyola Guild.
Due to the unconventional school year lacking many senior traditions, Assistant Principal for Instruction and Student Life, Dr. Fadia Desmond wanted to reschedule the event rather than canceling it altogether.
“The purpose of the event is to provide seniors with time together that recognizes how special their senior year is even if the world around them lacks normalcy,” Dr. Desmond said. “We wanted to have something in the midst of a year like none other that creates a time to be together, play together, and spend time together … The usual rites of passage for senior year don’t exist right now. But that doesn’t mean we can’t find creative ways to honor our seniors.”
DJ Hoang ’21 is especially grateful for the opportunity to spend time with his classmates as he urges his fellow seniors to come together for however long they have left.
“My senior year has been full of stress for the future and eager for a community,” DJ said. “It’s important for us as seniors to spend time with each other in our final year together. We all miss the unity that the brotherhood brings and it’s important that we experience it while we can.”
Noticing the eagerness among the seniors, Dr. Desmond is excited to give a special announcement to them at the “Spring and Swing into Senior Year” event.
“The seniors graduate in a few short months and our goal is to celebrate them in meaningful ways,” Dr. Desmond said. “We have another event planned for the evening of April 13 that we will be announcing at the golf event. For now, it is a surprise but I guarantee the seniors will LOVE it!”Between food, games, and the reveal of a new event, the “Spring and Swing into Senior Year” promises to be a night of community and merriment.
