The Jesuit Sports Medicine Program offers a unique experience, merging a classroom educational setting with hands-on experience.
We are proud to announce the formation of our Jesuit Sports Medicine program. The Jesuit Sports Medicine program will consist of a UC-approved year-long course and internship program where students will have a chance to shadow our Athletic Trainers. The development of this program will be overseen by Athletic Director Hank Weinberger and Jamie Ralph (Head Athletic Trainer / Sports Medicine Instructor).
The program will cater to students who may be interested in a career in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, orthopedics, occupational therapy, etc.
Students will learn competencies in the field of sports medicine, particularly in the field of Medical terminology:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Acute first-aid and emergency care
- Recognition and evaluation of athletic injuries
- Prevention of athletic injuries and illness
- Treatment and rehabilitation
- Organization and administration
How would a student show his interest?
If you are interested in taking the course, please notify your counselor. If you are interested in participating in an internship capacity, please fill out the Sports Medicine Interest Form
Does a student need to take the class before starting the internship?
No, we encourage all students to engage in this program whether they are in the class or not. Participating in the program could potentially benefit the student when they end up taking the course.
