Class Highlights – Camp Marauder Jr. (5th-6th)

*class offerings for this program are subject to change

Session 1:

Engineering 1

In a fun structured environment, students will explore Science through project-based learning. The students will learn principles of science such as displacement, velocity, kinetic energy, force, stored energy, mass, and force along with many other concepts. They will do this through lecture, research and most importantly apply these principles to hands-on builds so that they can see the science at work.

Minecraft 3D Printing 1

One of the most innovative and educational video games around is Minecraft. It offers real-world possibilities that encourage invention, creation, collaboration, and application. Students will form groups to design and build projects. We will combine their creative group work with a 3D printer to capture and print a model from their samples in Minecraft.

Art

This art course introduces students to various art techniques, materials, and styles. Each day will focus on a new concept, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and an appreciation for artistic expression. By the end of this course, students will have explored different art techniques and developed a deeper appreciation for creativity. The final showcase will give them a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work!

Session 2:

Engineering 2

In a fun structured environment, students will explore Science through project-based learning. The students will learn principles of science such as displacement, velocity, kinetic energy, force, stored energy, mass, and force along with many other concepts. They will do this through lecture, research and most importantly apply these principles to hands-on builds so that they can see the science at work.

Minecraft 3D Printing 2

One of the most innovative and educational video games around is Minecraft. It offers real-world possibilities that encourage invention, creation, collaboration, and application. Students will form groups to design and build projects. We will combine their creative group work with a 3D printer to capture and print a model from their samples in Minecraft.

Math of Sports

Students develop 5-6 grade level math fundamentals as relating to sports. Students look at the greatest players in respective sports by finding out shooting percentages, on-base statistics, and batting and pitching averages. There is hands-on learning in finding out their own shooting percentage as well as throwing pitches to measure their own fastball without a radar gun (averages/speed, distance, and time/time conversions). Additional math of sports is found in looking at the geometric shapes of playing surfaces and materials (finding area and volume).

Class Highlights – Camp Marauder (7th-8th)

Session 1:

Art of Film

This Course is focused on watching a handful of films and breaking down the cinematic language needed to appropriately discuss them in a constructive manner. Students will learn how to discuss terms and deeper meaning for camera  shots, acting, locations, editing, screenplays, Auteur and style, genre, sound and score as well as a handful of other learning outcomes. We look forward to watching classic , animated and modern films with you.

Scientifically Weird

Science exists all around us, together we will figure out the scientific explanation behind everyday phenomena. We will explore and experiment with weird, gross and intriguing occurrences and practice using the Scientific Method to explore the world around us.

Digital Photography

In this course of digital photography the campers will learn how to create stunning photos using cameras! The campers will also learn how to edit their photos using different techniques using lightroom and photoshop. There will also be various projects throughout the week, not only to make it a fun experience, but to also enhance their photography skills at the same time.

Session 2:

Coding, Digital Devices, and Robotics

Have you ever wondered how modern digital devices are designed, built, and programmed? Understanding digital technology is the first step towards designing and building the newest digital products. In this course you will be introduced to how software and hardware work together using a pocket-sized computer called a Micro:bit. You will be introduced to computer programming and learn to write code to control your Micro:bit. You will explore how the digital and physical worlds interact by connecting sensor inputs including motion, temperature, light, sound, and touch to your Micro:bit. You will see how your code can come to life by connecting it to outputs like LEDs, speakers, and motors. Finally you will connect your code to a wheeled robotic vehicle and watch it navigate through a physical environment.

Art

This art class will take campers through 10 days of projects founded in the classical skills of traditional studio art courses with their own unique spin. Each day campers will explore a new medium and embark on a project that allows their own personal creativity to take the lead. Though they’ll be building foundational technical skills, campers will be encouraged to develop their own creative eye through the daily art assignments.

Experimental Probability and Statistics

Students will work individually and collaboratively to learn about various concepts that deal with probabilities and statistics. Students will learn about histograms, scatter plots, bar graphs, pie charts, etc. Ever wonder the chances of winning that carnival game at the State Fair? Students will work in groups to create games of probability, create a Scientific experiment and present their data to the class.
