Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity basketball team has been playing well through the middle weeks of January; as of January 28, their record stands at 15 wins and 6 losses, and 7-1 in league play.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, Jesuit won a nailbiter, beating Rocklin High School 59-55. The game was neck and neck until the end when “The Big Red Machine” pulled away in overtime.

Guards Luke Browne ’25 and Asher Schroeder ’25 led the team in scoring with 13 points each. Guard Brandon Williams ’26 and forward Amaury McKinney ’25 contributed 12 each. In total, the four combined for 50 points. Asher added 8 rebounds, and Amaury had 7 to go along with three steals. Luke led the team in assists with 4.

On Friday, Jan. 17 the Marauders competed in another great game against Oak Ridge High School. The Trojans got out to an early 19-11 lead, but Jesuit came back, outscoring Oak Ridge 20-11 in the second quarter. Going into the half, Jesuit had secured a one point advantage.

The Marauders extended the lead to 6 in the third quarter, and Oak Ridge couldn’t find the momentum to close the gap, leaving the game 62-56 as the buzzer sounded.

Asher had a stellar game, leading all scorers with 17 points, grabbing 4 rebounds and adding 3 assists and 3 steals. Amaury had a great game as well, contributing 16 points. With Luke logging 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, the starters overwhelmed Oak Ridge with balanced scoring.

Jesuit’s next game ended with a close 7 point loss to Folsom High School on Wednesday, Jan. 22, but they responded to the loss by beating Davis Senior High School by 22 on Friday, Jan. 24 and Del Oro High school by 25 on Monday January 27.

The team has been playing well and with only one loss in league play, Basketball Varsity Coach Timothy Kelly is orchestrating a solid season so far. With games this week against Granite Bay today and Whitney on Friday, the team looks to build on recent wins, so come support the Marauders at home.
