Over the course of Feb. 19 to Feb. 27, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity basketball team played in the section tournament, fought all the way to the final, and suffered a devastating loss to Rocklin High School.
Despite ending the section tournament without a banner to hang, Jesuit did make the NorCal tournament as the three seed. Then, from March 4 to March 15, the Marauders would go undefeated over their next five games winning the Norcal Final and the first State Title in program history.
The Father Barry Gymnasium has never been this loud.
On Tuesday, Feb. 25, all of Jesuit High School Sacramento rallied behind their faculty and staff for the Teachers vs. Students basketball game. To close the annual Winter Sports Rally, the final two teams of the intramural basketball tournament took on 8 members of Jesuit’s faculty and staff.
Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity basketball team has been playing well through the middle weeks of January; as of January 28, their record stands at 15 wins and 6 losses, and 7-1 in league play.
On Saturday on Jan.11, the Jesuit High School Sacramento Marauders took on the Christian Brothers High School Falcons at home in the annual Holy Hoops game. After 32 minutes of physical and competitive play, Jesuit fell to their rivals 48-50, losing Holy Hoops for the first time since the Obama Administration.
The first quarter started off fast. Thanks to Christian Brothers’ fouls, as well as 8 points from forward Asher Schroeder ’25, Jesuit took an early 16-13 lead.
Saturday, Sept. 14 marks the 55th annual Holy Bowl at Sacramento City College’s Hughes Stadium.
After commanding victories against Rio Americano and Bellarmine College Preparatory, Jesuit High School Sacramento football is looking to secure a third victory against Christian Brothers. The pressure is on for the Marauders this year, as they have not lost a Holy Bowl since CB won 30-27 in 2019.
In yet another victory over Rio Americano High School, and the first under the new permanent stadium lights, Jesuit High School Sacramento put on a dominant display in their season opener, defeating their American River Drive rivals 56-7.
The Big Red Machine began the game with a strong drive that ended in a ten yard rushing touchdown by running back and linebacker Jack Patock ’25. After only three minutes of play and a successful point after touchdown (PAT) by Yudiel “Dragon” Mondragon Jr ’26, the Marauders established a lead that they never relinquished.
As Jesuit High School Sacramento’s fall sports kickoff, its cross country program, headed by legendary Head Cross Country Coach Walt Lange, looks stronger than ever.
After Saturday, Aug. 17’s intrasquad race, “The meeting of the Marauders,” Assistant Cross Country Coach Thomas Witzgall ’98 is confident that the team will excel this season.
“As a team, I think we’re probably one of the best teams Jesuit’s ever had,” Coach Witzgall said.
In the 2020 collegiate football preseason, Jesuit High School
Sacramento alumnus Laiatu Latu ’19 suffered a neck injury during
practice. He was told he would never play again, and the
University of Washington (UW) announced his retirement.
On Saturday, Jan. 27, two Jesuit High School Sacramento alumni took to the track in the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle, Washington, and raced the indoor mile at the 2023 University of Washington Invitational Track Meet.
In an amazing race, Matt Strangio ’20 and Spencer Pickren ’21 both ran personal bests, with Strangio winning the race in 3:55.53, putting himself at 19th place in the nation for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and 29th in the world at all levels for this indoor season at the time of the race. His recent 3000 meter race is also the 11th fastest in the history of the NCAA.
On Wednesday, Feb. 24, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s Varsity Basketball team faced off against Cordova High School and had one of their highest scoring games of the season. Beating CHS 94-63, the Marauders came out with a win and advanced to the quarter-finals in the Section playoffs.
Christopher “CJ” Lee ’24 is the starting quarterback of the varsity football team, but he’s much more than that. CJ is a great friend, has a great sense of humor, and he always looks on the bright side of things.
“He’s part of a rock band,” Caden Kelly ’25 said, “I believe he’s a platinum artist as of now and will soon be touring internationally.”
You may think those words are spoken about someone like Drake or Beyonce, but in fact, they are about a member of Jesuit’s class of 2024, David Soto. While Caden’s statement is not factually accurate, it’s clear that David has built himself a reputation at Jesuit as someone who excels at anything he puts his mind to.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s nationally ranked varsity soccer team faced off against Central Valley High School. Jesuit is ranked number one in the section and CVHS was ranked number 12. With great games from midfielder James Andrew ’24 and forward Kellen Jacot ’24, Jesuit won 3-1 and remains strong as the playoffs progress.
In a decisive yet relatively low-scoring game against Rio Americano High School, Jesuit High School Sacramento defeated their Carmichael rivals on the hardwood, winning the “Battle for American River Drive.” The game ended with a final score of 51-38 and gave Jesuit their 16th win on the season.
This year’s Holy Hoops game between Jesuit High School Sacramento and Christian Brothers High School couldn’t have been closer. The two teams were evenly matched for the whole game, with neither team ever building a definitive lead.
Jesuit High School Sacramento’s win streak continued with a 28-14 home win against Cosumnes Oaks High School on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity football continued their winning streak on Saturday Sep. 23 with a decisive 41-10 victory against Pleasant Grove High School High School.
The Jesuit Marauders started off their season with a 16-point win on Friday night against the Bishop Manogue Miners.
