A Sad Announcement to Share With Our Jesuit Community

Post

Shared with parents and students Tuesday morning, May 3, 2022.

Dear Jesuit High School Community:

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of sophomore Luke Felsted. With the family’s permission, we share that his death was by suicide. We mourn his passing and grieve his absence in our community.

Mourning the death of a student is perhaps the hardest thing we do as a school community. It is during these times that we rely on the strength of our faith in God and in one another.

Death can be difficult to understand, especially when it is sudden and with someone so young. All of us will be feeling a variety of emotions—shock, sadness, confusion. What is most important is that we care for and support each other and that we trust in the living God who is always with us.

Our prayers and support are with Luke’s family as well as our students at this time. Resources and support services are available to everyone in our school community.

The Counseling Department will be available to students all day today and additional counselors, Jesuit priests, and chaplains will be on campus throughout the week.

Tuesday, May 3, at 2:00 pm, there will be a Mass of Remembrance in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs on campus. All are welcome to attend.

The ongoing use of our Wellness resources will continue to be available through our Counseling Department. This link to our Wellness Portal includes information and resources on suicide prevention.

Please keep Luke, his family, and his friends in your thoughts and prayers. May God continue to be with us during these difficult days.

Sincerely,
