15 years ago, we were still using the Joseph J. King S.J. Library as a traditional library: researching, reading, and learning from physical books. But then we stopped. The computer was faster, easier, more expansive – plainly better – and those books were no longer needed.
The Father Barry Gymnasium has never been this loud.
On Tuesday, Feb. 25, all of Jesuit High School Sacramento rallied behind their faculty and staff for the Teachers vs. Students basketball game. To close the annual Winter Sports Rally, the final two teams of the intramural basketball tournament took on 8 members of Jesuit’s faculty and staff.
Following a strong 16-11 season, the Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity water polo team aims to continue their success this year. The team believes they can compete at an even higher level by growing in all areas of play.
Last year, the Marauders finished second in the Delta League, and finished fourth in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division 1 Section Playoffs. This year, Head Water Polo Coach Josh Ford and the team seek to build on their past success.
On Friday, Aug. 27, the Jesuit High School varsity football team played De La Salle High School in their only scrimmage game. Their season officially opens against Rio Americano High School on Aug. 30.
Although score is not kept in scrimmages, this matchup still served as a solid benchmark for the team’s performance going into the season.
“Friday’s scrimmage was a great learning experience for us,” said running back Jack Patock ’25. “We saw where our strengths were, and found areas that we need to work on. We struggled being consistent – some drives we played well, and others we played poorly. Our goal is to be more consistent and make less mistakes each week, which I know we can achieve.”
105-98 was the score when the final buzzer sounded. Just 8 points separated the Sacramento Kings from a Playoff berth, just 8 points away from an entirely different narrative, just 8 points that could decide the future of Sacramento’s crown jewel.
Once finished, Jesuit High School Sacramento Drama’s 2024 spring production “children&art: A Song Cycle” will mark a first for the program: its first original musical. The cast for children&art met just nine weeks ago, having to write, produce, choreograph, and rehearse an entirely original show in under 90 days.
Children&art is inspired by students’ experiences during and after the pandemic. The production does not follow a linear plot, but rather a song cycle structure, made up of 10 individual songs which relate to the underlying theme of joy found through art.
For two seasons, Declan Higgins ’24 has been nothing short of remarkable as a runner on the Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity cross country team. Not only that, but in his time as a Marauder, Declan has set himself apart as one of the most adaptive and persistent students inside and outside of the classroom.
With All-Star Weekend in the rear-view mirror, the Sacramento Kings sit at seventh place in the Western Conference with a record of 33-24. At the start of this NBA season, The Plank anonymously polled 47 random student fans from Jesuit High School Sacramento, asking them what their Playoff expectations are for the Kings this year. Their confidence was clear: 52.1% said that this season’s team can make it past the second round, something the franchise hasn’t accomplished since 2002. Let’s see how those expectations stack up after 57 games.
On Dec. 3 and 4, Jesuit High School Sacramento hosted its 15th annual “Lessons & Carols” performances. The voices of the Jesuit and St. Francis High School chamber choirs joined to fill the Chapel of the North American Martyrs with harmony and hope.

Every so often, students get a four-day week due to a scheduled Faculty and Staff Professional Development Day. On these days, teachers work as a group to address changes in the educational world. However, the school may be looking to change the Professional Development Day schedule to better accommodate the individual needs of teachers in the future.
Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity cross country team placed second at the first league meet of the year at Cherry Island Sports Center on Sept. 27, losing to Davis 32-28.
