Update

A message from the Administration about attendance around the holidays

As I am sure you have noticed (we know your sons have!), Jesuit takes the entire week off for Thanksgiving.  We made this change many years ago due to the consistently high absence rates in schools that hold classes on the Monday and Tuesday of this week. To both respect the need for travel to and from family events and to care for your sons, who have reported experiencing significant academic stress as a result of missing days this close to the end of the semester, we added some days elsewhere in the calendar to compensate for the days of instruction that we miss by not having classes during the week of Thanksgiving. Ultimately, we feel that we have gained more quality class time with this change and feel that the change positively contributes to a strong end-of-the-semester experience for students by relieving some student stress.

That being said, we want to stress the importance of all students being in attendance the week before this break and the Monday following. It is important we do not extend our breaks, as our teachers will be collecting work, presenting new material, and giving assessments until the last period on Friday before we go on vacation. The return from this break is also when more formal preparation for finals begins, so we want to ensure students are set up for the greatest chance of success going into Final Exams.

Upcoming holidays include:

  • November 11: Veterans Day (Offices Closed)
  • November 25-29: Thanksgiving Holiday (Offices Closed 11/27-11/29)
  • December 23-January 3: Christmas Break (Offices Closed 12/24-12/26, 1/1)
