The Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity basketball team played
Folsom High School on Jan. 14 and Archbishop Riordan High School

During his four years at Jesuit High School Sacramento, Andrej Stojaković ’23 has not only grown as a basketball player (he is currently ranked as 24th best recruit in the Nation according to the ESPN 100 Ranking Index for 2023) but also as a leader and person.

On Jan. 6 and Jan. 7, the Jesuit High School Sacramento Basketball team defeated Sheldon High School and Christian Brothers High School. Both games were blowouts and showcased the team’s amazing ability to score and play well as a team.

Jesuit Basketball continues to build trust and teamwork
From Dec. 27 to Dec. 30, the Jesuit High School varsity basketball team competed in the Damien Classic which took place in Los Angeles, California. They managed to advance to the quarterfinals, beating some strong schools before falling to Ironwood High School, a top-ranked team from Arizona.
Bassem Mansour ‘23, a model of generosity
Bassem Mansour ’23 is known for his generous spirit and joyous
personality. Bassem, however, feels that the community at Jesuit
High School Sacramento has been just as generous to him,
especially in the aftermath of the accident that changed his
life.
Opinion: Georgetown University offers historic campus, Catholic education
Georgetown University is a private Jesuit institution and
research university located in Washington, D.C. It offers the
opportunity for Jesuit High School Sacramento students to
continue their Jesuit education in the nation’s capital, with
access to a multitude of internships and a beautiful campus.
Another asset added to Jesuit’s arsenal
Every school year, Jesuit High School Sacramento gets a number of
new transfers across all grades. This year, Kevin Haupt Jr. ’24
transferred to Jesuit after completing his sophomore year at
Oakmont High School in Roseville.
Don’t Worry Darling displays dazzling performances
Psychological thriller film “Don’t Worry Darling” hit theaters on
Sept. 23, 2022. The movie was directed by Olivia Wilde and
written by Katie Silberman, and features a star-studded cast
including Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, and Gemma
Chan.
Chess is growing in popularity at Jesuit
Chess is an abstract strategy game that requires two players.
Each player controls 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks,
two bishops, two knights, and eight pawns. The objective of the
game is to “checkmate” the opponent’s king by leaving them with
no options to move. However, there are also several ways that a
game can end in a draw.
“Final Letters” Learning from the past to change the present
On Friday, Nov. 4, Jesuit Drama held the Opening Night Gala and
Performance of the fall play “Final Letters,” a company-created
production based off of the Yad Vashem Archive’s “Final Letters.”
This solemn yet educational production presents emotional letters
written by Jewish victims of the Holocaust while under Nazi
oppression.
Latinos Unidos gives voice and community to latinos students
Latinos Unidos is Jesuit High School Sacramento’s Latino heritage
club. It is a club that seeks to give a sense of community and
voice to Latino students at Jesuit.
Wild West Shootout ends, Fr. Barry Classic begins
The Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity basketball team defeated Damonte Ranch High School and Spanish Springs High School in the Wild West Shootout Tournament that took place in Reno, Nevada from Dec. 1 to Dec. 2. The tournament was supposed to include an additional game against Bishop Manogue High School, but due to weather conditions the game was canceled. Jesuit will play Garces Memorial High School to kick off the Father Barry Classic on Dec. 8.
Varsity cross country runners experience a season of growth
The Varsity Jesuit High School Sacramento Marauders’ 2022 cross country team finished the season winning six races while placing second and 20th in the prestigious Clovis Invitational.
Mr. Lai believes that the growth of the underclassmen played a significant role in the team’s chemistry and success this year.
“The team really got along well and the underclassmen have been stepping up,” Mr.Lai said. “With such a small group of juniors and seniors, more pressure and responsibility has been expected of the sophomores and many of them rose to the challenge.”
Stop Asian Hate movement encourages respect in America
Ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, hate
crimes against Asian Americans have increased throughout the
country. In response, the Stop Asian Hate movement was created in
order to increase awareness and speak out against these crimes.
Now, two and a half years after the beginning of the COVID-19
pandemic, members of the Jesuit High School Sacramento community
reflect back on those troubling times.
Food drive aims to donate 100,000 pounds of food
Since 1968, Jesuit High School Sacramento has hosted an annual
Advent Food Drive; one of the oldest traditions at Jesuit.
Basketball starts season with a big win against Oak Ridge
On Saturday Nov. 26, the Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity basketball team kicked off their season by defeating Oak Ridge High School in a blowout, posting a final score of 67-43.
Head Coach Timothy Kelly notes how the team started the season well, but still thinks they can play better.
“Yeah, I think we played okay,” Coach Kelly said. “We can be a lot better than we are right now. There’s some good enthusiasm; we’re doing some really good things out there, and there are some things that we could still improve upon.”
Mr. Eddie Ralph lights up the mathematics department
Junior varsity basketball Coach, Algebra 1, and AP Statistics teacher Mr. Eddie Ralph has been coaching at Jesuit High School Sacramento for three years, but this is his first year as a teacher on campus.
STAR Crew spreads the good news of Jesuit High School
Coming to Jesuit High School Sacramento as a freshman from middle school can be exciting, but it can also be difficult not knowing what to expect. Director of Admissions Mr. Matthew Ramos ’05 wanted to address this issue so he created the Student Team of Ambassadors for Recruitment or STAR Crew.
Vandalism restricts availability of some bathrooms on campus
Recently, a wave of bathroom vandalism has swept across Jesuit High School Sacramento, leaving hundreds of students with compromised restroom availability and forcing the school to spend thousands of dollars to repair the damage.
