The month of May marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness
Month, a time that sheds light on the importance of mental health
and encourages people who might be struggling to reach out for
support. This year, Jesuit High School Sacramento is working hard
to spread awareness and help their students.

students cope with stress, achieve more academically, and just
live happier and healthier lives.
Jesuit holds annual Student Awards Convocation
On Thursday, April 27, in the Father Barry Gymnasium, Jesuit High School Sacramento celebrated its annual Student Awards Convocation. The Jesuit community in its entirety, from staff and faculty to parents, gathered together to celebrate this year’s student accomplishments.
Mock Trial explores the legal field
Working in the field of Law interests many students at Jesuit
High School Sacramento, and thanks to Jesuit’s Mock Trial
program, they can explore this passion.
Jesuit’s Wellness Center cultivates student’s well-being
Jesuit High School Sacramento provides many resources to support
Jesuit students’ mental health and well-being. One such resource
is the Wellness Center, located next to the King Library.
Mr. Brusel retires after 25 years of bringing humor and joy to Jesuit
Mr. Carlos Brusel, a Spanish teacher loved by all his students
and co-workers, has announced that the 2022-2023 school year will
be his last year teaching at Jesuit High School Sacramento. While
he will no longer be physically on campus, Mr. Brusel’s spirit
and lasting impact on this school will forever have a special
place at Jesuit.
Foundations of Cybersecurity to grow Jesuit’s computer science program
High school computer science courses have been growing in
popularity recently. With technology advancing, it has become
important for students to have a deep knowledge of computers and
technology as a whole.
Don’t miss chamber choir’s final performance of the year
On May 4, at 7 p.m. Jesuit High School Sacramento chamber choir
will be participating in the spring choral concert held at Our
Lady of the Assumption.
Junior Prom promises plenty of fun
One of the most anticipated high school events is just around the
corner. Jesuit High School Sacramento’s 2023 Junior Prom will
take place on Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m.
California Advocacy Day gives students a voice in legislation
March 27-28, I had the opportunity to participate in the
California Ignatian Student Advocacy Day hosted by Jesuit’s West
Collaborative Organizing for Racial Equity (CORE).
Exploring exciting student art
On April 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Jesuit High School Sacramento will host an art showcase known as The Exhibition: Cannonball Collection. This is the first Exhibition in our history, and it will consist of pieces from the students in Digital Media and Studio Art classes. To conclude the Exhibition, there will be an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
Internet addiction: fleeting focus
Over the last decade or so – and especially since COVID sent
everyone online – the internet has become an essential part of
the teaching and learning process. And while the internet has
made information more accessible to all students, it has also
created distracting behaviors.
AP Environmental Science will grow student’s passion
In the 2023-2024 school year, Jesuit High School Sacramento will
be adding AP Environmental Science to its course catalog. AP
Environmental Science is a year-long course, and as an AP course,
it will have a curriculum developed by the College Board.
California Advocacy Day, learning to be citizens of faith
This year’s California Advocacy Day on March 28 invites and
encourages students from Jesuit High School Sacramento to visit
the California state capitol in downtown Sacramento and
participate in faith-based advocacy.
Lenten Service Drive lends supports to Sacramento
From Feb. 27 to March 31, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s Office
of Service and Justice (OSJ) is hosting the Lenten Service Drive,
which combines a donation drive and special events for education
on justice.
Jesuit Auction amazes and astounds
Tuition at Jesuit High School Sacramento does not cover the full
cost of educating a student, so Jesuit has to create fundraising
activities to provide essential revenue. The Jesuit Auction event
does help to fill the gap in a fun and fruitful manner.
Clothing Exchange Closet helps students stay in uniform
When soon-to-be freshman Viliami Sitauti ’26 stopped by Jesuit
High School Sacramento to drop off some paperwork, he found out
that his uniform wouldn’t be arriving until September, a month
into his freshman year. Luckily, he was able to get free,
dress-code compliant logo wear for free from Jesuit’s Clothing
Exchange Closet.
Open Mic Night
Tonight, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Asian Pacific Islander Clubs
(APIC) from Jesuit High School Sacramento and St. Francis High
School, along with Jesuit Latinos Unidos and the Jesuit Student
Council, will host Open Mic Night in the Harris Center.
Lights, camera, action! Movie night pops off
On Saturday, Jan. 28, Jesuit High School Sacramento invited
Jesuit and St. Francis High School students to attend Movie
Night, where “Top Gun: Maverick” was shown, with plenty of
snacks, and time to hang out with friends.
Captains of the ships
Jesuit High School Sacramento has a long tradition of forming the
leaders of the future, which is, in fact, one of the stated goals
of a Jesuit education.
